In support of our mission, we are seeking a Workplace Technology Editor to launch and run our coverage of technology in the workplace. The ideal candidate will be attuned to the needs of both IT decision-makers and productivity-focused individual contributors, with a deep understanding of the landscape for technology in the workplace (both remote and in-person), strong writing skills, and an entrepreneurial bent. You will report into Charter’s managing editor.

What you’ll do
The Editor will lead the creation of editorial content focused on workplace technology product reviews and best practices, including the intersection of technology with inclusion, wellbeing, and sustainability. This is an opportunity to develop Charter’s content voice and expertise for an audience of technology leaders, startups, and teams eager to learn how to work smarter and more successfully.
Specific responsibilities:
- Identify and test technology products, both hardware and software, related to work and the workplace.
- Generate new ideas for stories, formats, and product reviews.
- Conduct research and original reporting on best practices related to workplace technology.
- Maintain and grow a list of sources in your coverage area that yield story ideas and allow you to efficiently report out pieces.
- Write content and own the editorial calendar for your coverage area. File copy that generally doesn’t require extensive editing.
- Collaborate with the rest of the editorial team to adapt and repurpose content between our enterprise and consumer-facing editorial products, including our Charter Pro daily digest, our free email newsletter, our section on Time.com, and Charterworks.com.
- Work closely with Charter’s research team to help shape the research agenda as it relates to workplace technology, and translate original findings into actionable content.
- Stay up to date on news, trends, best practices, and research related to workplace technology.
Who you are
- A strong writer and reporter, with experience in technology-focused journalism and/or product reviews, an interest in thinking expansively about how technology impacts the workforce, and a proven ability to operate in a largely self-assigning manner
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of the landscape of workplace technology products and practices
- Sound news judgment and an ability to distill complex ideas into key takeaways
- Low ego, high ambition
