We are a media and insights company designed to transform every workplace. The world of business is at an inflection point. Charter serves as a guide and vital partner to the people who want to take best advantage of this opportunity to catalyze change.
In support of our mission, we are seeking a journalist to join our editorial team, creating content for our new research and insights platform. The ideal candidate will be curious about issues business leaders face around the future of work, with strong writing skills and an entrepreneurial bent. This role provides a unique opportunity to help create something new from the ground up and pioneer new approaches to journalism and research content. You will report into the Charter Pro editor.
As a company that values diversity and inclusion, we encourage individuals of all backgrounds and experiences to apply for this position.
What you’ll do
The Charter Pro journalist will help lead the creation of editorial content for our email newsletter and platform for members. This is an opportunity to develop and execute Charter’s content voice, formats, and strategy for an audience of leaders shaping the future of work.
Specific responsibilities:
- Write in a variety of formats for Charter Pro, including (but not limited to) a daily email newsletter, news and analysis roundups and original pieces, reports and case studies, and other tools and resources. File copy that generally doesn’t require extensive editing.
- Generate new ideas for stories, formats, and types of content that would serve Charter members.
- Take ownership for a lane of coverage or specific format, in addition to operating as a generalist.
- Maintain and grow a list of sources in your coverage area that yield story ideas and allow you to efficiently report out pieces.
- Collaborate with the rest of the editorial team to adapt and repurpose content between our enterprise and consumer-facing editorial products, including our free email newsletter, our section on Time.com, and Charterworks.com.
- Work closely with Charter’s research team to help shape the research agenda and translate original findings into actionable content for our members and the broader public.
- Contribute research and reporting to editorial projects, including joint pieces with colleagues.
- Copy edit and produce pieces and newsletters from colleagues and outside contributors in our CMSes, including selecting photos/art and doing fact checking and research if necessary.
- Attend events and press conferences where important for our coverage or to raise Charter’s profile with an important community; proactively identify such opportunities. Cover and/or moderate at Charter’s own events.
- Stay up to date on news, trends, best practices, and research related to the workplace.
Who you are
- A strong writer and reporter, with a proven ability to operate in a largely self-assigning manner (experience in business journalism is a plus but not required)
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
- Curious about concepts and issues related to management, human resources, and the workplace
